CALL FOR ENTRY: Accepting submissions March 2 - March 13
The Poplar Bluff Library invites you to submit original artwork inspired by Apollo 8's infamous Earthrise photo. Your creations will be on
display during our Beyond Earth exhibit. This exhibition coincides with the library's community read program, The Book in the Bluff. This year's selected title is Rocket Men by Robert Kurson. Rocket Men chronicles the historic 1968 Apollo 8 mission, the first time humans traveled to the far side of the Moon. The book highlights the intense pressure and ingenuity of NASA engineers and astronauts as they focused their collective efforts on answering President John F. Kennedy’s call to land Americans on the Moon and return them safely to Earth by the end of the decade. Through courage, collaboration, and trust, Apollo 8 forever changed our understanding of what humanity could achieve together. This mission and the Earthrise photo are the inspiration behind this year's exhibit.
Although participation in The Book in the Bluff program is always encouraged, it's not necessary for submitting an artwork to this call for entry.
